Race and class are the two biggest causes of inequality in the U.S. educational system. While there have been improvements in the difference between black and white students, there are still disproportionately fewer blacks receiving high school educations. Wealth and income also greatly impact the type and duration of educational experience a student will have. The more money a family has the more likely it is that a child will finish high school or go to college. Since school funding is mostly based on property taxes schools reflect the neighborhoods they are in, and help to keep the system unequal.
