Exam 7: Codes for Positioning and Milling
The rules of structure that must be followed when writing in a specific language are called ____.
B
How do you find out if a motion control system error is within the acceptable tolerance?
Every motion control system will have error. The question we must ask is "Is the error within our tolerance?" To answer this question is difficult without specialized equipment. One method is to cut an arc on a piece of material and then measure it. A coordinate measuring machine can give a good indication of the deviation from a true circular arc-form. We can also check the actual motion of the machine tool while it is moving. There are commercial systems available that use a linear transducer to measure the actual machine position while in motion.
Discuss the G28 code.
There are some situations in which you may want or need to return to the machine zero on one or more axes to change tools, to inspect the workpiece, or to set a preprogrammed work offset. In these situations, we can use the G28 code to instruct the machine to automatically return to its home position. When G28 is called, the machine will immediately move at rapid traverse to the home position on the specified axes. If no axis is specified, the machine will return to the home position on every axis; usually the Z-axis is homed first for safety.
Using R with circular interpolation is straightforward-you simply use the ____ of the arc instead of I and J.
What will happen if calculations are not accurate for the X-, Y-, I-, and J-coordinates?
Rapid positioning will always move in a straight line from the current position to the programmed position.
When using G28, it is very easy to make the mistake of setting the intermediate coordinates to zero and expecting upward movement as with incremental positioning.
____ is a term used to describe the process of passing through all points.
To determine the sign of R, draw a ____ between the end points of the arc.
Circular interpolation is produced by a motion control system that is moving ____ axes of the machine tool at the same time.
When you use incremental positioning with circular interpolation, the end point of the arc will simply be the ____ from the start of the arc to the end point of the arc.
____-in/____-out is the act of entering or exiting a finished toolpath at a shallow angle or arc to ensure a consistent finish and to prevent gouging that can be caused by tool deflection.
When programming toolpaths, you will never need to return to the machine zero on any axis.
Full-circle arcs always start and end in the same place, and the center point is found in the same manner as any other arc.
Codes that carry out machining operations or establish machine settings are known as ____ codes.
